The President, Mauricio Macri, accompanied by the Rector of the Universidad Nacional de La Matanza (UNLaM), Dr. Daniel Martínez, led the opening, on Monday, November 13, of the Information and Communication Technologies Development Center of the UNLaM.
The project provides for 20 software industry companies to be based there to hire 500 students in a 4,200-square-meter building with computer labs, in a partnership between the University and companies in the sector.
Epidata, one of the 10 most important software industry companies in Argentina, has been involved since the start of the project and will employ between 10 and 15 students.
The UNLaM Technology Hub model fosters job placement in the sector and focuses on students who are pursuing their degrees at the University, with the goal that they develop professionally and graduate with experience. Students taking part in the program must keep up with their course load and graduate on time to maintain their place in the project.

”We believe in that communion, in that joining of efforts. These are works that add to the training of students and that will help them all exchange ideas and generate new ones.
The most important thing is that we are focusing on where the work of the future comes from, which has to do with the digital world, with technology. We need to be part of that, to be smart and give our young people the tools so they can be part of that world that is coming.

President Mauricio Macri opened the Technology Hub of the Universidad Nacional de La Matanza, accompanied by the Education Minister of the Province of Buenos Aires, Alejandro Finocchiaro, and the Rector of UNLaM, Daniel Martínez.

For his part, the Rector noted that the opening of the Hub “is the realization of a dream”.

”It is the possibility of achieving what one sets out to do, it is the transformation of that dream into hope and into this reality made possible by the partnership with software industry companies, which is a different way of conceiving education and of linking practice to theory.

”85% of the young people who enroll at the Universidad de La Matanza are the first generation of university students in their families. Now they can work for the best companies in Argentina from the university itself and graduate, reducing dropout rates. As someone from La Matanza, it makes me very happy to be able to contribute to the development of future professionals.

After touring this technology hub, the President had a meeting with Ignacio Fernández Kaufman, Business Delivery Manager at Epidata, who was able to tell the President about the innovation projects Epidata is carrying out in the area of IoT and Smart Cities: traffic, smog and noise pollution sensors; this last project particularly caught the President's attention, and he commented and recalled that, during his term in the City Government, a study was carried out on noise pollution in the City of Buenos Aires, and it turned out to be one of the highest in the world. Fernández added that the main goal of the Smart Cities project is to detect the city's most problematic streets and corners.
